Why? Unless you have already been admitted to First Communion, you need to be confirmed in order to take Communion. You can also then participate at every level in the life of the Church. Anyone may be confirmed who has been baptized. Young people, as well as adults of any age, are able to be confirmed.
How? Those exploring the possibility of Confirmation attend a preparation group. Confirmation itself takes place at a special service presided over by the local bishop. You can be baptised and confirmed at the same service. This happens increasingly often but in most cases candidates will already have been baptised as infants.
When? In this parish a service of confirmation is held once a year, usually in May.
