PCC Interregnum Newsletter - February 2010

This is the third in the series of newsletters to keep you informed of progress towards recruiting a new Team Rector and Vicar of St Mary Magdalene.

We have now reached a major milestone as our advertisement will appear in the Appointments section of the Church Times on Friday 19th and Friday 26th February. This is a little later that we had originally intended but there has been a lot of work to be done in pulling together the Parish profile and the advertisement itself and getting everything approved by our Archdeacon, Stephen Roberts, and our Patron, the Acting Dean of King's College Cambridge. Archdeacon Stephen Roberts has been very supportive and very complimentary about the document that we have published.

As explained in the last newsletter, we have been following, and will continue to follow, the procedures laid down for us by Southwark Diocese and our own Team Ministry constitution.

Next Steps

All applicants will be sent the Parish Profile and a copy of our DVD. The Parish Profile is 15 pages long and sets out to describe the Team and convey a flavour of our Team Ministry in Richmond. The profile is available in hard copy in each Church for anyone interested.

The deadline for applications is midday on Friday, 19 March. We hope we will have a good number of strong candidates interested in the post and we will be drawing up a shortlist in March.

The short-listed candidates will be invited to visit Richmond on 10th April and will have the opportunity to meet some of the Team, to ask questions and be shown around. The formal interviews will take place on Thursday 15 April in Richmond.

The Interviews

The group of people to conduct the interviews is defined in The to the Scheme for Establishment of Richmond Team Ministry, confirmed by an Order in Council in December 1995. This group is known as the Patronage Board and consists of:

Our Archdeacon Stephen Roberts will also be attending.

Two Lay Parish Representatives - elected from PCC -also have a crucial role at the interview. They are required to affirm or veto a selected candidate. These two lay Parish Representatives are the St Mary's Churchwardens - John Buckingham and Jackie Harrison. Jackie is also on the Patronage Board and will fill two roles in this process.

Assuming that we find a suitable candidate at the interviews in April, we would not expect the new rector to join us much before the autumn to allow for the notice period and summer holidays.

In the meantime...

We really do need help from you at all three churches. There are many ways in which you can become involved in church activities:

Welcoming Flower arranging Tea & Coffee Cleaning
Reading Bell ringing Intercessions Chalice Assistants
Choirs Maintenance Visiting Sacristy

If you can help in any way, please let us know.
