In and Around the Church
Saturday, 14th MAY, 2011
We need people who could take on responsibility for certain things. I think it is worthwhile. We raise over £3000 in total to charities, many of them , local. The church is filled with youngsters making music all day. Those who do help tell me they value the’ coming together’ of the parish for a purpose that happens only once a year. But we need people and fresh impetus. Please give me feedback on the issues raised here.
Round the Church we Need:
- For the past 2 years I have written to all the shops in Richmond (there are over 200) asking them to support us financially. In some respects it had been dispiriting as most claim to support charities nationally via their Head Office but it has still been a worthwhile exercise as in both years we have had major contributions from 2 firms that have financed the live music. Also several give us tokens which in turn generate money. So is there someone who would circulate the shops? I have the letter on computer. Or does anyone have other ideas for fund raising?
- The White Elephant stall makes a good deal of money but we need two people to oversee it.
- For the Art Festival the schools need to be contacted once the prize winners are known. A job that could be done from your home from via e. mail or phone.
- The Toy stall is also well worth doing but I need to delegate that task. Could people from Junior Church take that on?
- Publicity. Most people are drawn to The Green. How can we tell them we’re here too ? Could someone design a flyer, print and copy it, give it to parents / au pairs in the church for distribution to other parents / au pairs outside school gates?
Don’t forget, if you run a stall you can decide where your profit goes.
So, if help is forthcoming we will need items to sell e.g:
- white elephants
- books
- home made produce
- second hand children’s toys and books and jigsaws
If you can help please choose from the following
- Early birds to put up stall
- Book sellers
- Supervising Art Exhibition
- Welcoming in church
- Tower trip supervisors
- Baking cakes & biscuit
- Helping on stalls
- Nightingales to clear away
Last year it was so good to have helpers from all three churches!
