Let the bells ring out

The message of bells was heard clearly across Richmond this autumn and winter at a number of special seasonal events.

The first of these was a magical evening titled ‘Upon a Ring of Bells’ which was a celebration of bells of many kinds in poetry, prose and music presented by the Saint Martin Singers. The concert on November 16 was part of the 800th anniversary programme of St Mary Magdalene at the heart of Richmond. The evening began with the sound of St Mary’s eight bells with a ringing performance by our band that was warmly applauded by the concert audience.

Later in November, the ringers offered a range of hand made items at their stall at the Christmas fair at St Matthias church. The day was a solid success as a fund raising event for bells maintenance and gave the ringers an opportunity to make contact with people from a different part of the team ministry.

The ringers were in action again for the Christmas celebrations, welcoming the congregation to the service of Nine Lessons and Carols and again on Christmas morning.

As always, we are grateful for the support of ringers from other local churches.
