Each evening during the November Covid lockdown a single bell has sounded at St Mary’s. This has been our response to the call from the Archbishop of Canterbury and the House of Bishops for a national period of prayer for the nation. This is a daily invitation at 6pm that will continue through the lockdown.
Bells are traditionally a call to worship and a sign that the church is open. While the doors remain closed at the moment, the ringing of the bell is an important reminder that the church still has a role at the heart of the community.
The nightly ringing has been shared between Jackie Harrison and Barbara Hicks.
